ABSTRACT

The following work is framed within the UBACyT (Azaretto, Ross, 2018-2020) "Readings of psychoanalysis on" the social ". Ways in which psychoanalytic theory thematizes some social issues", in conjunction with the master´s degree in psychoanalysis and the doctorate completion scholarship on the subject of incest articulating psychoanalysis with anthropology and philosophy. Due to the symptomatic peculiarities, that we have found in cases of incest, regarding language and grammar, it was essential for us to address the distinction made by Lacan between lalangue and language, incorporating in this work the contributions by Claude Lévi-Strauss and Gilles Deleuze, which in our opinion are essential to understand these symptomatic particularities

ABSTRACT

The cleft lip and palate are congenital malformations that affect the production of phonemes in Spanish, English, French, or any other spoken language. The clinical case presented corresponds to a 53-year-old female patient and aimed to improve the speech function of the patient's stomatognathic system. An extraoral and intraoral dental examination was performed to assess the condition of the patient's stomatognathic system, the diagnostic was palatal-uvular fissure. The level of phonetic articulation of the language was evaluated by means of observation techniques and test including the clinical history forms, the Oral Language Evaluation, and The Speech Algorithm questionnaires as instruments. Once the dental-medical and linguistic diagnosis was made, the intervention procedures were determined, the woman was dental rehabilitated, she underwent a palatoplasty, and consecutively participated in 24 ordinary sessions of phonetic articulation exercises and 10 extraordinary ones of reinforcement, emphasizing / k / / g / / j / / x / / c / ch / / ñ / / ll / / y /. It was concluded that after the intervention sessions, the patient showed an improvement in the production of these speech phonemes, going from a very low range of 45/110 and 4/15 to a high range of 95/110 and 13/15 respectively, according to the language assessment instruments applied.

ABSTRACT

Information about the prevalence of consonant production errors, including compensatory articulations (CA), in individuals with cleft lip and palate (CLP) who speak Brazilian Portuguese is limited, particularly regarding liquid sounds. The literature primarily reports the occurrence of CA for plosive and fricative sounds, since occurrence of CAs in sounds that require higher amounts of oral air pressure is expected. While the use of CA during liquid sound production is not expected, clinical experience suggests that individuals with CLP present with inadequate backing, elevation, and anteriorization of the tongue as well as tongue clicks during production of /r/ and /l/. Objectives: Describe the occurrence of consonant error productions during liquid sounds for children with CLP; compare the occurrence between children operated with the Furlow and von Langenbeck techniques for palatoplasty; and compare the occurrence between children operated between 9-12 months and 15-18 months of age at primary palatoplasty. Material and Methods: A sample of 397 children (237 males and 160 females) with operated unilateral CLP was studied. In this group, 163 underwent palatoplasty with the Furlow procedure and 234 with the modified von Langenbeck procedure. Age at palatoplasty was between 9 and 12 months for 189 children and between 15 and 18 months for 208 children. Data about production of /l/, /r/, /R/, /λ/ and consonant clusters /l/ and /r/ were obtained from speech pathology records. Speech pathologists registered the speech findings after an auditory-perceptual evaluation of the participants at the sixth year of age. Results: The use of middorsum palatal place (MDP) of production was identified for 2 percent of the sample. Tongue anteriorization of the /l/ production was observed for 55 percent of the children. No significant difference was found related to surgical technique, but children operated earlier developed the use of the consonant cluster /r/ sooner than children operated later (p=0.040). Conclusion: We found a low occurrence of use of cleft related CA during attempts of production of liquid phonemes, and the variable age at primary palatoplasty significantly interfered with the acquisition of consonant cluster /r/.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Several investigators have developed word lists for Korean speech audiometry. Many variations of the lists were identified in previous survey. A committee was organized to develop standard word lists for Korean speech audiometry. In this study, we propose new monosyllabic and bisyllabic word lists, whose performances can be compared with those of previous word lists, verified in clinical situations, and revised in future with proper reasons. We also report why some compromises have been made in the words number and the phoneme frequencies of the new monosyllabic word lists. There was no compromise in those of the new bisyllabic word list. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The target frequencies of new lists were determined by the previous references. In the Korean dictionary, 410 familiar monosyllabic words were available for the lists. These words were arranged in a matrix of initial consonants and vowels to meet the phonetic balance condition. RESULTS: Two monosyllabic word lists were developed with abovementioned compromises for the lack of monosyllabic words with final consonants. One bisyllabic word list could be made without compromise. CONCLUSION: The arrangement method in this report has some advantages in diversifying syllable distribution and satisfying the phonetic balance condition. The new monosyllabic and bisyllabic word lists have been designated with identification codes 'KsoM-07' and 'KsoB-07', respectively.
